Crooked Fence Mill sits at the edge of the mountains in Northern Utah, in a little workshop that smells like lanolin and cedar shavings. We're the neighborhood craftsman: old-world skill paired with modern precision.
Every fleece that comes through our doors is a story — of a shepherd, an animal, a season. We treat each one that way. We skirt carefully, wash gently, card patiently, and spin to the standardized Craft Yarn Council weights so that what leaves the mill is exactly what you hoped for when it arrived.

We remove vegetable matter and second cuts, sorting by staple and quality.

Gentle warm-water scour, thorough rinse, and slow drying on racks.

Card & Spin
Fine carding and even spinning to your chosen CYC yarn weight.

A quick word on the common ones
How much fleece do I need to send?+
For a single skein sampling: 8 oz clean weight. Most customers send 3–20 lb greasy weight per project. We wash and weigh at each stage and report yields honestly.
What's your typical turnaround?+
Most orders finish 6–14 weeks after arrival, depending on queue and complexity. We keep you posted along the way.
Can you match a specific yarn weight?+
Yes — we spin to the full Craft Yarn Council range, Lace through Jumbo. Tell us the pattern or grist you're aiming for.
Do you blend wool with alpaca or other fibers?+
Happily. Blends carry the warmth and elasticity of wool with the drape and halo of alpaca. See the Wool vs Alpaca guide for ideas.
What if my fleece isn't perfect?+
Almost no fleece is. We skirt again on arrival and let you know what we're seeing. Rustic character is welcome here.
